CAMPELLO

Campello or El Campello as it is known in the local Valencian dialect is located in the heart of the Costa Blanca between the historic City of Alicante (13kms) and the well known holiday resort of Benidorm (30kms). Formally just a small fishing village but now an important seaside holiday town. It still retaining its original origins including its fishing industry and fish auctions held at the port.
El Campello has many beaches and coves, 23 kms in all, from the vast and impressive golden sand beach of Playa Muchavista to small reclusive rocky coves at Coveta Fuma, with a suitable Mediterranean Sea for fishing and aquatic sports. The kilometer and a half Paseo Maritimo (promenade) adjoining the beach permits a relaxing walk anytime of the day or year. Being lined with bars and restaurants is also an ideal place to sample the excellent cuisine of El Campello. There is also a mountainous area, ideal for excursions into uninhabited zones with many paths of great ecological interest.
A prominent landmark is the Tower Vigia (watchtower) of the Illeta dating from 1554, where you can also find the archaeological site of La Illeta dels Banyests dating from the Bronze Age. In the town you can visit the Parochial Church devoted to Saint Teresa.
There are 5 stations within the El Campello region for the narrow gauge coastal railway, which has stops all along the coast from Alicante to Denia, including San Juan, Villajoyosa and Altea.
The nearest international airport is Alicante, 15kms away.
